Follow the tips below to maximize the functionality and life of your AC and plumbing units. Upgrade old inefficient equipment to high-efficiency equipment. Faucets and Sinks, Repair leaks immediately — even small drips can waste as much as 150 gallons of water every day, and lead to increased water bills and damaged fixtures and pipes, Check under sinks periodically for moisture or small leaks, Remove and clean faucet aerators annually to ensure an even flow of water, Make sure overflow holes on tubs and vanity are clear and open to prevent water damage to floors and ceilings. Water Heater, Shut off the power and read owner's manual before do-it-yourself maintenance on your water heater, Drain water from the tank at least once every three months to remove sediment, which can ham per performance, Inspect your water heater burner periodically — the flame under the heater should appear blue with yellow tips. If it's mostly yellow, or if it's sooty underneath, your flue may be clogged, which is a dangerous situation.
